SWEET AND SAD by Richard Nelson opens Friday at Third Rail

Here comes the season.

And with it, a new show at Third Rail.

The company opens SWEET AND SAD, the second play in Richard Nelson’s four part series (now titled THE APPLE FAMILY PLAYS: SCENES FROM LIFE IN THE COUNTRY – this guy may be a Chekhov fan), tomorrow night.

The original cycle started at New York’s Public Theater, where each year since 2010, a new play has opened. The final work in the cycle, REGULAR SINGING, opens in New York this fall on November 22, the 50th anniversary of Kennedy’s assassination.

Third Rail’s schedule is running two years behind the Public, so REGULAR SINGING will be here in 2015.

This year in New York all four of the plays (THAT HOPEY CHANGEY THING, SWEET AND SAD, SORRY, and REGULAR SINGING) are running simultaneously.

Third Rail plans to do the same thing when they finish with the cycle.

Talk about an actor’s dream come true.

The Apple family cast had better rest up.

Because in two years they have quite a season opener to prepare for…
