Photos | Bridgetown Comedy Festival | Portland’s live performance scene is on fire

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

It was three days of August weather kidnapped and released in early May.

In Portland.

Who knew when the 8th annual Bridgetown Comedy Festival set its dates that there was endless summer weather in the forecast?

While the sun helps, the real draw keeping things blazing over this long weekend of comedy is the roster of indoor talent.

The Portland live performance scene is on fire. You knew that. And no one is coming to put it out. Oh well.

Enjoy the conflagration.

And we still have one more full day.

Obama who? | Bridgetown Comedy Festival takes over Portland all weekend long

All weekend long, Portland is going to be in traffic gridlock.

But it’s not because of the Prez.

Oh no.

It’s because the Bridgetown Comedy Festival is back in town. Portland’s growing comedy showcase is hitting its stride, and it’s easy to walk between most venues, which are roughly centered on Doug Fir in SE Portland.

This thing is just getting started, so turnout and catch some of the best live entertainment anywhere.

Here’s photos from day 1.

Willamette Week’s *FREE* comedy showcase is back | THE FUNNIEST 5 Sunday night at Bossanova Ballroom

If there’s one genre of live performance that’s blowing the doors off Portland these days, it’s comedy-improv-storytelling. The format typically features either one person at the mic tearing it up or a group of stone-faced pros looking at each other realizing they have no idea what is just about to happen.

The stuff is everywhere. And it’s good. Damn good.

So to keep the train going, there’s a free event this Sunday night At Bossanova Ballroom. It’s put on by Willamette Week. They did a poll and came up with the five top picks for local comics, and now you get to see “The Funniest 5”.

Info

It’s free, but it fills.

Doors at 6, show at 7.

Lineup:

MC – Bri Pruett
#5 – Nariko Ott
#4 – Christian Ricketts
#3 – Steven Wilber
#2 – Curtis Cook
#1 – Sean Jordan

All Jane, No Dick – But plenty of talent | Curious Comedy’s annual festival features deep bench of impossibly good comediennes

Wow.

Judging from Thursday night’s late set at Curious Comedy, it’s going to be quite the weekend with All Jane No Dick in town.

These women are on fire.

That’s a metaphor. It means they’re really, really good.

Like – as good as you need them to be. And more.

There’s some serious talent on the loose. So get down there.

There are three more nights of stocked shows.
