All weekend long, Portland is going to be in traffic gridlock.
But it’s not because of the Prez.
It’s because the Bridgetown Comedy Festival is back in town. Portland’s growing comedy showcase is hitting its stride, and it’s easy to walk between most venues, which are roughly centered on Doug Fir in SE Portland.
This thing is just getting started, so turnout and catch some of the best live entertainment anywhere.
If there’s one genre of live performance that’s blowing the doors off Portland these days, it’s comedy-improv-storytelling. The format typically features either one person at the mic tearing it up or a group of stone-faced pros looking at each other realizing they have no idea what is just about to happen.
The stuff is everywhere. And it’s good. Damn good.
So to keep the train going, there’s a free event this Sunday night At Bossanova Ballroom. It’s put on by Willamette Week. They did a poll and came up with the five top picks for local comics, and now you get to see “The Funniest 5”.
Once every few months, TJ & Dave show up from Chicago for a long weekend of late night improv at the Barrow Street Theatre. They have a fanatical following (one friend has seen them six times), it’s always sold out. And for a damn good reason. They deliver the goods.
