The youth of Ashland, Oregon have failed to display adequate reverence for the town’s history and heritage.
In a running battle a few years ago between town authorities and unspecified dwellers in the forest, the head from a statue in Lithia Park memorializing one “Jacob Thompson Pioneer of 1847” went missing under mysterious circumstances.
After replacing the head only to have it disappear again, town elders decided to remove the entire likeness of poor Jacob.
The pedestal remains. So now the kids pose on top of it as pioneers.
The effrontery of it all.
