Kenneth Lonergan’s THIS IS OUR YOUTH (1996) returns to Broadway via Steppenwolf

Kenneth Lonergan’s THIS IS OUR YOUTH, one of the most enjoyable plays of the late 90’s for those (of us) of a certain generational age and place, and the launching pad for Mark Ruffalo, is poised for a comeback.

As if it ever went away.

A new Steppenwolf production directed by Anna Shapiro will run June 10 – July 27 in Steppenwolf’s Upstairs Theatre before heading to the Cort Theatre in the fall (c/o producer Scott Rudin). The show features Michael Cera, Kieran Culkin, and Tavi Gevinson.

If you haven’t hung out with Warren, Dennis, and Jessica before – now’s the time, man.

For diehard fans, this stunning, very funny play of privilege gone wrong on Manhattan’s UWS in 1982 has been preserved for the ages on a blazing audio production with the original cast (Josh Hamilton, Mark Ruffalo, Missy Yager, and director Mark Brokaw) thanks to L.A. Theatre Works.

The next time you want that drive to Ashland (or anywhere else) to disappear in about five minutes, dial up this classic (and many others from LATW) on the headphones.

Time a sweltering summer trip to Chicago right and you can also catch the world premiere of Bruce Norris’s THE QUALMS, which runs July 3 – August 31 at Steppenwolf.

Not a bad double shot.
