When it works, our multi billion dollar, NSA-funded Theatre Early Warning System (TEWS) is supposed to keep you informed well in advance of upcoming items of interest.
But sometimes owing to a software glitch, power outage, government shutdown, or Chinese cyber attack, the main system goes offline and we are forced to rely on the sputtering, hand crank backup: the TLWS (Theatre Late Warning System).
Or – in an absolute emergency – we have to rely on The Oregonian for theatre news.
Well god bless ’em. An old style punch card a la 1970’s main frames just flew out of my TLWS console with this heretofore completely off the radar news.
For two nights only this weekend, there’s a new musical by Shalanda Sims on a chapter from black Oregonian history: VANPORT.
See this story in the O for more info.
It’s a pity there wasn’t more advance warning on this one. But catch it if you can.
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday- Saturday, Nov. 15-16
Where: Jefferson High School, 5210 N. Kerby Ave.
