Douglas Carter Beane and Nathan Lane return to Broadway with THE NANCE

If you’re a fan of New York jewels such as THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED and AS BEES IN HONEY DROWN, you may have wondered at some point over the last few years when we’d see another play by Douglas Carter Bean.

Sure, there was that little side project musical named XANADU he was involved in for a while.

But when would we get our next chance at a properly outrageous and over the top 100% Beane play?

The answer, it turns out, is in about four weeks.

Beane’s new play, THE NANCE, begins previews on March 21 at the Lyceum Theater.

According to producer Lincoln Center Theater, “THE NANCE recreates the naughty, raucous world of burlesque’s heyday and tells the backstage story of Chauncey Miles and his fellow performers. At a time when it is easy to play gay and dangerous to be gay, Chauncey’s uproarious antics on the stage stand out in marked contrast to his offstage life.”

With Nathan Lane in the title role and direction by Jack O’Brien, this one sounds like a must see.
