Two more of Portland’s younger theatre critics are moving on.
A few months ago, Alison Hallett left Portland Mercury, and now Aaron Scott of Portland Monthly and Rebecca Jacobson at Willamette Week are cleaning out their desks. Taken together, the trio of personnel at these publications form Portland’s main critical establishment. So in the course of a few months, the whole board will have turned over.
These seats are typically staffed by young up and comers who stay for a few years before exiting stage left to greener pastures, as opposed to the (now gone) lifer/stringer model at The O, where people stay (stayed) too long. While the way station as opposed to permanent destination model probably makes more sense in Portland’s smaller arts world, Scott and Jacobson will definitely be missed.
Scott will be a producer at OPB’s State of Wonder show with April Baer, and Jacobson is off to Berlin.
Happy trails!
